Advanced Sewing Training Wraps Up

Our most recent Open Arms Advanced Sewing Training finished up this week with a completely full studio! Five women from Afghanistan and three from Iraq attended the training, which is taught by Open Arms staff member Maria, assisted by Sam. The students arrived with varying levels of sewing skills and English proficiency. Maria evaluated each and then guided them through practice projects on the same industrial machines the Open Arms staff uses for production during the day. End-of-course evaluations will help the Open Arms' staff decide which women should continue in the next training, and if anyone is ready to begin a paid apprenticeship.
