Current MRC Volunteer Opportunities
NEW LEAF AGRICULTURE
Each workday has different activities. Volunteers will work alongside refugee farmer apprentices to complete daily farm tasks.
Volunteers will help with a variety of activities such as mulching, creating farm beds, weeding, planting, and more.
Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds. Must be 14 years or older (if under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult).
Monday and Friday mornings 9:00am-12:00pm (occasional Saturday morning shifts)
New Leaf Farm, located 20 minutes east of Austin
OPEN ARMS STUDIO
ESL Conversation Partner
Volunteers will support weekly English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Open Arms Studio.
Volunteers will supplement the lesson plan by allowing refugees to practice their English language skills. Primary activity will be talking with class participants.
A desire to help others. Openness to other cultures and ways of thinking. Ability to speak, read, and write English along with a basic knowledge of how English works. Coaching skills. A sense of fun.
Open Arms Studio, located in east Austin
Volunteers will help plan and implement events throughout the year, ranging from open houses to an annual fundraising event.
Volunteers help on the event day with set-up, event activities, and clean-up. Volunteers may also choose to be involved in event planning.
Enthusiasm for executing or planning events. Highly organized. Ability to tolerate heat during outside events.
