Welcome New Refugee Farm Staff

Please join us in welcoming six new refugee farm apprentices to our staff and to our farm! The group is made up of three Bhutanese women, two Bhutanese men and one Congolese woman. They are pictured filling out new-hire forms with help from CEO Meg Erskine and a Nepali interpreter recently graduated from MRC's interpreter training.

The new apprentices will work three days per week this spring preparing the land and beginning planting. In late spring they will begin more structured learning about farming in Central Texas, in addition to their work hours.

Not only does this mean supplemental income plus training for six more people, but it’s also a significant step toward creating Austin’s first commercial refugee agriculture program! We are extremely thankful to the Posey Foundation and New Leaf partner Colleen Preheim for making it possible to bring on such a large apprentice class of 2018.
