Originally from Oklahoma, Flor moved to Austin in January of 2016 after spending 14 months teaching ESL English in Thailand. Previous to her involvement with MRC, Flor had served the international community at various capacities and lived abroad in three different countries, where she developed a passion for the refugee community. Flor has a B.A. in German and International Studies from Texas Tech University and an M.A. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in culture and learning sciences from the University of Texas. Her career as an interpreter focuses on legal and counseling settings for asylum seekers, and serves as her drive as a trainer of interpreters in the Austin community. She volunteered with MRC for two years before joining our staff in January 2018.
Esther Diaz, Interpreter Trainer
Esther has 16 years of experience working with refugees, including training of interpreters, as well as a 30-year career with state government as a translator, trainer, and executive manager. She has been leading interpreter training courses for MRC since 2016.
