In response to a strong need for interpreting services across Texas, MRC recently introduced Introduction to Community and Medical Interpreting. This 40-hour training is open to all languages. The only prerequisite is passing a language assessment of English and another language. The next course is scheduled for Saturdays in April and May 2017. The cost is $405. The instructor is Esther Diaz, who has more than 16 years of experience training community and medical interpreters. For more information and to register, contact Esther at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Today MRC CEO Meg Erskine joined a group of 75 private and public sector leaders at a White House meeting to address the global refugee crisis. Brought together by the TENT Alliance, members represented organizations such as the State Department, Chobani, Airbnb, Accenture, IKEA, Upwardly Global, the International Rescue Committee and our partner, Laura Davis of Newton Supply Co.
Thank you to all the MRC supporters who helped CEO Meg Erskine make a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York to join world leaders in discussing refugee resettlement this week! Meg and MRC partner Laura Davis of Newton Supply Co. were able to talk about refugee livelihoods with many influential people, not the least of whom were President Obama and George Clooney!
Come visit with MRC staff, board members, partners, and refugees on Saturday, September 24, and observe our community gardens and Open Arms manufacturing site in action. At each location we’ll have stations you can visit at your leisure to learn more about aspects of the refugees’ work and training. Everyone is welcome!
