Kate Melman grew up in Washington DC and attended the University of Vermont receiving a degree in Sociology and Latin American Studies. During this time Kate lived in Buenes Aires, Argentina for 6 months and hopes to return one day soon to South America. After moving to Austin, she worked as the Associate Director of Casa Marianella for 2 years working with immigrants and political asylees. She currently works as the Domestic Violence Case Coordinator at Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. Kate's future goals include returning to graduate school to pursue a degree in migration and refugee studies. She is grateful to be a part of MRC and enjoys making the connection for the political asylees she worked with at Casa Marianella with the larger refugee community at MRC.
