Yubelly Perez
Board President

Originally from Bogota, Colombia Yubelly Perez holds a B.A in International Relations from Universidad del Rosario (Bogota). She and her husband came to U.S in 2003 seeking Political Asylum. They found out about American Gateways (formerly known as PAPA) a Non-Profit in Austin who provides low cost legal services. Thanks to them they received legal representation and assistance through the immigration process, and in November 2004 they were granted Asylum. After that, Yubelly and her husband were part of the Resettled Program at Caritas of Austin.
Yubelly has been part of MRC since 2009 when she began helping MRC's participants with job search and resume writing. Every Thursday night she's at our Community Center guiding and helping participants with job skills. Also she and her husband have been supporting and cheering MRC's soccer team since their first season.

Currently Yubelly is MRC's Treasurer and for her MRC is a place she had wished existed when she came to the States, "my husband and I didn't know anybody in Austin and we were trying to find ourselves; when I met Meg and heard about MRC my heart was pounding and I was so happy to know there is a community resource for all refugees and asylees who need to feel like home and welcome in their new life"
